"When you counsel and warn others, do it earnestly, affectionately, and thoroughly. And when you are speaking to your equals, let your warnings be intermixed with expressions of your own unworthiness and of the sovereign grace that makes you differ. And, if you can with a good conscience, say how you in yourself are more unworthy than they." Jonathon Edwards 'Advice to Young Converts'
"Lack of balance in the Christian life is often the direct consequence of overemphasis on certain favorite texts, with a corresponding underemphasis on other related ones. For it is not denial only that makes a truth void; failure to emphasize it will in the long run be equally damaging. And this puts us in the odd position of holding the truth theoretically while we make it of no effect by neglecting it in practice. Unused truth becomes as useless as an unused muscle. Sometimes our dogmatic insistence upon 'It is written' and our refusal to hear 'Again it is written' makes heretics of us, our heresy being the noncreedal variety which does not rouse the opposition of the theologians." A W Tozer 'That Incredible Christian'
"It very often happens that the converts that are born in excitement die when the excitement is over. They are like certain insects which are the product of an exceedingly warm day, and die when the sun goes down. Certain converts live like salamanders, in the fire; but they expire at a reasonable temperature. I delight not in the religion which needs or creates a hot head. Give me the godliness which flourishes upon Calvary rather than upon Vesuvius. The utmost zeal for Christ is consistent with common-sense and reason: raving, ranting, and fanaticism are products of another zeal which is not according to knowledge." C. H. Spurgeon, The Soul Winner
I have been working for the past little while on recording some music. I used to play guitar in bands and never have to worry about any other parts. Since I've been moving around so much in the past few years, I haven't able to get together with like-minded people to write with. So I built a computer and started to teach myself how to record. This is what I've come up with. The EP is called "The Branch of His Planting". Here is what theopenlife.com said about the album, "Tell your friends to settle down and listen up. The sophomore release of Joshua Klein's solo project, Salos, is a restful and contemplative selection of instrumentals. Aficionados may find it reminiscent of Unwed Sailor or Explosions in the Sky. More like a Chaniwa tea garden than an overgrown field, the album cuts back excess brush to plot comfortable and sometimes poignant paths with modestly overlayed guitars, e-bow, drums, and occasional viola. The Branch of His Planting comes with an accompanying sheet of texts and an invitation: the listener is encouraged to print out and read selected scriptures along with the music. Consider it a sort of guided tour through the well-cultivated vineyard of Joshua's fruitful thoughts."
