"Divine Providence and Earnest Intercession"
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
Was encouraged tonight in study. Meditation on Providence has proven fruitful. The Lord gives understanding when we seek it as hid treasure. (Prv 2:1-6) My mind was enlightened to know more of the blessedness of Divine Providence and earnest intercession. In reading through Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology I read, "When we earnestly intercede for a specific person or situation, we will find that God has ordained that our prayer would be a means he would use to bring about the changes in the world." (pp 334) He then quotes James 4:2 which encourages, "...ye have not, because ye ask not."
O how this stirs me! Why faint in prayer? Why lose heart to intercede? My prayers are part of God sovereign work! This brings great encouragement to my heart!
Intercession tonight was especially sweet! My heart was enabled to believe that God was working to this very end!
"Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me." (Ps 66:20)
Evangelism is a Divinely ordained means.
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?" (Rom 10:13-15)
and I add, "How shall they be sent, except it be asked for?"
For Jesus commands,
"Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." (Mt 9:38)
Earnest prayer is a Divinely appointed means the same way evangelism is.
We are to pray:
1. that labourers would be sent
2. that boldness would be given to preachers
3. that sinners would have ears to hear
4. that God would give those sinners the gift of faith that leads them to call on him
5. in short: that they may be saved. (Rom 10:1)
Let your heart be encouraged to tears for souls today.
"Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things." (2 Tim 1:7)

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Nashville!? What an unexpected providence!
I have been in school the past two years in Minnesota. Last year, I attended the Musical Stringed Instrument Repair and construction course in Red Wing, MN. http://www.redwingmusicrepair.org There I learned to repair acoustic and electric guitars, I learned about wood technology, and I built a 12 string acoustic "from scratch". This trade is really amazing to be in. It requires such skill and craftsmanship.
This year I am attending The National Institute of Woodfinishing in Rosemount, MN. http://woodfinishing.org/ This school focuses on the finishing aspect of woodworking. This school has been even more exciting to see all of the opportunities available in this field!
School is closing out in a few weeks and it's employment time...
Julia and I will be heading out to Nashville, TN in a month or so. I was hired at a custom guitar shop as the full time Finisher. http://www.southboundcustom.com/ I start in the beginning of June! What a blessed providence. I am thankful to the Lord Jesus for his tender care over his sheep! Please pray for God's hand of leading in all things that come with uprooting your life to move to another state. Thank you, family.
Love in Christ,
Joshua

Christ's Love For the Church Quote
"Did Christ give himself for the church with a view to render it perfectly holy, without any blemish or imperfection? How strong then are our obligations, and how great our encouragement, to aim at universal holiness. What, oh Christian, do you above all things desire? Is it not to be holy as Christ is holy, and to be with him where he is? And does not he ardently desire the same? Did he not give himself for you for this very purpose, that he might sanctify, cleanse, and present you to himself, perfectly glorious and holy? And will he fail of accomplishing his purpose? No; as certainly as Christ has died, so certainly shall every real member of his church, every one who truly hates and mourns for sin, be presented to him at last, freed from every spot and blemish. Arise, then, ye who are weak, wounded, and desponding, and renew the conflict with sin. While endeavoring to subdue it, you are fighting the battles of Christ; you are engaged in a cause which is dear to him; you are contending with his enemies, as well as yours; he has determined that they must and shall be conquered. Fight then courageously a short time longer, and the victory shall be certainly yours. The object of Christ’s death must not, shall not, cannot be frustrated; but every member of his real church shall be made perfectly like him, and see him as he is. Soon will the blessed day arrive, when he will present to himself the whole church of his redeemed, as a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing. In this number you will then be found, and sit down with him forever at his marriage supper in heaven. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, comfort and encourage one another in your Christian warfare with these words."
